Go Cart Derby 2018

Room 4 have recently been given the task to come up with a go cart.
We had to make the go cart using the beg, borrow and trade idear.
After weeks of hard work we had completed our go carts, but some didn't get theirs done. But they still got to be apart of the action. How you may ask, well they got to test out others go carts.
So after hard work and a few failures we finally completed the task at hand.

Camp Wellington Video

Today I worked on sisomo and created a DLO about our school camp in Wellington
I learned that now Spark adobe have made a 30 second transition time, instead of just having a 20 second transition.
I really enjoyed making the slide because it was fresh in my brain so I could just write it down as it came to me.
I found it hard to pick the photos for the video because there were so many.
I found it easy to download all of my slides on the my Spark adobe video.
Next time I would make more slides and work faster.
This blog post shows I am a Smart Blogger

Wellington Camp Reflection

Everyone in Room 4  left school at 7:53 with a big smile on there face and ready for the big trip ahead. We stopped in at Wairoa for a pit stop and a bite to eat then set off for Napier. When we arrived at Napier we had lunch at the sound shell. On the bus we got to watch 3 movies the first movie we got to watch was ‘Jurassic World the Fallen Kingdom’ then we watched ‘Despicable Me 3’ and the last movie we watched was ‘The Avengers’. After lots of twists and turns we arrived at Silverstream.

The next day I was woken to the girls in my cabin talking. We got ready and went for a run with one of the parents. Then went to breakfast. After breakfast we got on the bus and went to Parliament. We had to wait at the footsteps of Parliament for a while and then headed on into the classroom and had a little chat and then went on a tour of Parliament. First we had a little look around the Beehive, then went into the debating chamber, then went into the parliamentary library. After we had left Parliament we went to the Cable Car’s and then had lunch up at the Botanical Gardens. Next we left for Te Papa. We got to Te Papa and went inside, I went with some of my friends and looked at the 2nd and 3rd flour and part of the 4th floor and went back down to the Gallipoli expedition. We went inside with all of the other room 4 students, I took some photos, then went back to the 4th floor to see the rest of the sculptures and art in the museum. While we were on the 4th floor we found a room that lit up when you pushed a button, but if you didn't push a button it would be multi-coloured. Then we went to the 5th and 6th floor and had a look out at the harbour. Then went down and had a look through the shop and had a ice block. Then went back to Silverstream with a lot to write in our diaries. We had butter chicken for dinner and apple shortcake for dessert. Then had a shower and did a quiz in out activity teams. My team got 17 out of 20.

The next day we got woken up at 6:00 am, got dressed, and went for a run. Then came back and had breakfast. I had coco pops with yogurt. Then got changed and went on the bus where I sat near the the back of the bus. We then went to Weta Workshop. When we were at Weta Workshop we got given a tour of some things that they do and got to watch a little movie showing us all of the movies that they had done and also how they started and why they started the Weta Workshop. The man who was giving us the tour said that WETA stands for “we employ total amateurs”. Then after we were finished at the Weta Workshop we went to the Wellington Zoo, before we went into the Zoo we had a bite to eat. When we go into the Zoo we had a safety talk and then we were free to go. First my group went to the capybara but they went there because one of them had just had 7 babies. Then we went to see the otters after the otters we went to the gibbons but they were a little hard to see because they were all in there house. After we had a glimpse of the gibbons we went to the kiwi and the tuatara, then we went to see the spider monkey, cotton top tamarin and a many others.

On day four we went for a run. We had breakfast, I had corn flakes and peaches today. Then went and got on the bus. We went to Zelandia and had a tour around, we even got to see a tunnel web spider that ate a weta! After we had a tour around we went back in and had a look in the shop, had something to eat and got back on the bus to a park near the beach for lunch. After lunch we got to have a look through the city to see the sights. We had to go in our activity groups, my activity group was Emilee and John for the parents and Charlie, Quinn, CJ, Lily, Horowai and Ella. We stopped at Starbucks for a hot chocolate, it was my first time having a Starbucks hot chocolate. I would love to go and have another. Then we went on over to the Train Station. On the way there we stopped in at a dairy and got some ice cream, we got  Ben and Jerry's. I got the chocolate fudge brownie, it was good. Then we went over to the Train Station and got on a train. After the train ride we got back on the bus and went to the secret location it was Jumporama which is a trampolining place it was a lot of fun! At the tramp place there was a foam pit, a dodgeball arena and about 20 other tramps in the building. My friend and I spent most of our time in the foam pit, fighting with the foam blocks. After we were all out of energy we went back to Silverstream and got ready for bed. Before bed we did another quiz this time we got 10 out of 23 which was alright. Then we had to brush our teeth and went to bed.

Day 5 we got up early and had breakfast and got ready for the long day ahead. I packed a few things in my day bag.
1. camera
2.cards to play on the ferry.
3.Lunch
4. Drink bottle
5. A good book
6. Our diarys
After we were all packed we hopped on the bus and headed for the Wellington ferry terminal. Once we were there we sat down and played a few card games and talked. By then it was time to go to the boarding place. We all lined up and waited for the line to reach the escalators to take us up to the ferry. Once we were on the ferry we had to climb some stairs to reach the 1st floor of the ferry. Once we were all seated in and the boat was moving we played some card games. Me and my friends played p’s and a’s to pass the time. Then we played snap I keepted winning so in the end we stopped playing because none was trying. But when we reached the cooks strait it went down hill. Me and my friends were feeling sea sick so we laid down on the floor and it made it better. When were were in the Melbra sounds we started to feel better. So we got up and had a look around the boat and we also found a machine that turns your 10c into a souvenir. After we a little bit we were in the harbor,  once the ferry stopped and we could hop off. I was very excited to be back on land! Then we had a bite to eat. Then we were off. First we went to the Edwin Fox, did you know that the Edwin Fox is the 9th oldest ship. And the last of its kind. After putting our bags into a room we went and had a look at the boat it was massive and it was fun because we got to have and insight on . We also got to go on the beds that they would have had to sleep on. Did you know that on the beds you would have had to sleep 6 people and they were just a little bigger than a single bed. The Edwin fox was on a dry doc so we could go and see what it looked like underneath. While we are at the Edwin Fox we had a little bite to eat and then went over to the echorium to see the fish and other animals when we went in we got to have a look around we got to see fish, Kina, and even crabs. There weren't just sea creatures there, we got to see a Tuatara, Weta and a few other animals. After we had a small look around we meet up with our tour giyed. She let us pat a Tuatara, that was an awesome experience. I thought that they would have been hard but they weren't they were actuele really soft. We also got to feed the fish that was also an amazing experience. When she feed the sting ray it would come up the glass and eat it that way it was really cool. Then we went and looked at a park but it started to rain so we went back to the ferry terminal on the way to the ferry terminal we stopped back in at the edwin Fox and had a look up stairs and  then went and got our bags. We went back over to the ferry terminal and had a game of crd and waited for the rain to pass. When it did we went back to the park and had a play and an ice block. After we had our ice block we went back to the terminal and by then it was about 5:40 pm and we were all ready to go back to the north island. At 6:30 we got the call to get ready to start boarding. But we started boarding at 6:50 and left the harbor at 7:00. And after we left the harbor we ordered our dinner, I got fish and chips. The fish was a bit chewy but was alright. After dinner we played a game of card and by then we were at the cook strait. Instead of lying on the floor we walked around the ferry and while we were walking we spotted some of the boys in the kids playground watching paw patrol which was funny. We went down and joined them which enjoyed them a lot but they got over it. And then we had a look in the gift shop and then we had reached the Wellington harbour. We were allowed to go up to the top deck and have a look at the Wellington city lights. We hoped of the ferry and went to the bus and headed on back the Silver stream. On the way there some of the people on the bus were singing which was annoying but it wasn't that bad, I've heard worse. We got back to the bas and got ready for bed.

On the friday we went over to the reception and said thank you and then hops on the bus. On the way back I sat next to one of my friends and we played some card games and also watched a few movies. One of the movies we watched were Skyscraper and Solo star wars and y then most of us were asleep. And at 6:30 we had made it back to Matawai. We were all tired but we had just had a time of our lives.

Writing reflection

We were given the task to create an imaginative piece of writing.
Our inspiration was about our wellington locations. If you are wondering
what the Wellington locations are they are the places that we are going to on
camp. I wrote about Te Papa. I really enjoyed making the writing and also
coming up with the ideas. I found it hard to stop writing and to come up with a
cliff hanging ender for the story. After we finished our writing we then had to
make a poem about the story that we had written. Each of the sentences had to
begin with ‘Imagine a night’, after doing that we had to pick sentences out of the
writing to create the poem.

I step into Te Papa, the doors just about to shut, looking around the bench
seats for my drink bottle. “Your late!” “Late?!, sorry I don’t know what you
mean, I just came for my-.” “No time, your shift has already started.” “Shift?”
“Bob, don’t make excuses”. “ I’m not Bob, I am a child and just so you know
I am not a boy.” I sit on the bench. In the dim light, I make out a woman's
face edging closer to me. “Oh sorry, your not Bob, finally, the boss has
fired him.” “You must be the new guard.” “Who?, what?, where?, now?
Guard?” “Yes, you are Penelope.” “Penelope? Who is this Penelope you
speak of?” “You are just as crazy as the last guard,” she says while rolling
her eyes. “The last guard? You mean Bob?” “Yes! I mean Bob. Ok, follow me.”
The lady wraps her arm around my shoulders and pulls me along after her.
We go down a long winding corridor and up one flight of stairs. The stairs
open up into a big room, I stand in amazement. It looks so much bigger at
night. “Hurry along, this way” with a firm grip the old woman drags me over
to the information desk and sits me in a chair. “Here is your torch and radio
if you need it,” “so I am not here alone?”, “You are here alone, did you not
read the papers?” “Papers, sorry, I am confused”. “No time to be confused child,
my shift is well over and now I will leave you here till the morning,”
“What, No, Wait!” As I said that the old lady scattered over to the stairs and
vanished.

I sat in the chair, thinking it all through, what had just happened? Then it hit me,
why didn’t I see it before? I am the security guard for Te Papa, thats not that bad,
ya, not so bad. I stand up out of my seat, and walk to the other side of the desk
and look at some papers. A voice echoes over from the other end of the room.
“Do you know where the toilet is?” I spin around to see a large statue towering
over me. “Sorry I had to bother you, I am new around here, and the Gallipoli
men aren't that nice. Oh how rude of me, I am Queen Elizabeth.”
“Your highness?” I mutter before I pass out. My eyes flutter open to
see a… gigantic…. gun, pointed right at my face. I freeze in fear, “are you
an enemy, or one of the men?” I sit up, my mouth drops. “Close your mouth
boy!” “Is it not obvious I am a girl, and I am sick of being called a boy thank
you very much!” “Oh sorry ma’am, how rude of me, I am sergeant Butts,”
I chuckle under my breath, “sorry is something funny?” “No, sir, it’s-” “It's
what? Hurry up and spit it out, we don’t have much time” “what do you mean,
don’t have much time?” I say confused. In a stern voice sargent Butts says
“because, we are in world war one.” My heart starts to race. “Get up girl, you
can ride tedd” the man says with a friendly smile. “Where is tedd?” the man
stands up, he’s about 60 feet, at an estimate. He reappears leading a horse, he
brings it over to me, I look up. “Here you go Miss,” sergeant hands me the
reigns, “there you go.” He starts to walk away, “sergeant, I can’t mount this
horse!” “Why not?” “look at my size compared to the horse!” “Ok then I
will give you a lift”. The 60 foot man puts his hand down to the ground. I
look startled, “get on.” I place my left foot onto his hand then my right.
Slowly he lifts up his hand and places me onto the back of the horse. My
legs dangling, looking like little spots on the horses gut.

“This way Miss.” Tedd follows behind sergeant Butts, until we reach what
looked like a abandoned campsite. Tedd came to a grinding halt, I jolted
flyed almost sliding of the slick back of Tedd. Sergeant walks over to me
and pulls me by my hair and drops me to the ground. “That hurt you know!”
Slowly he walks away, I follow close behind him. In the distance I can see a
faint glow beaming from a tent. Sergeant pulls back the dirty white canvas
sheet to reveal a horde of men speaking to each other about the plan,
whatever the plan was. I look over to the corner of the tent and see what
looked like a real man tied up with cloth in his mouth. I tug on the loose
fabric of the sergeants pants, he pear down. “What seems to be the problem”
he says in a low voice. “Well why is there a man tied up in the tent?” I say
before a puzzled look crosses my face. “He said that he was an enemy, so we
tied him up” sergeant says with a grin on his face, shocked at what I had just
heard. It just spilt out. “That is not civilized!” before I remember that this is
world war one. ”Sorry, I just forgot that we are in world war one, so to you
that would be the right thing to do.” “Don’t sweat, my wife doesn't think it
is civilized either,” “you have a wife?”. “Yes I do, she works as a nurse”.

Another man walks over to sergeant Butts, the man is short and stubby
fat, and almost stood on me! In a lowed and meaningful voice he says
“sergeant Butts it is time to attack, the enemy have crossed the border
and now a heading for giant country that could be very-” “Shhhhh, I know
what it means they are going to get the giants to help them.” “Right boss you
are so smart,” “do not be funny with me, we have a war to win.”
“Troops it’s time to set out” sergeant Butts voice blasts over all
of the discussion. The men freeze, bolt and get their guns and sadel there horses.
Once everyone was out of the tent, the short stubby man went over to the
corner of the room and cut free the prisoner, then with a suspicious look he
walked out. Little did he know that I had just witnessed it all. The man who
had just been cut free was about to escape, I had to do something.
To be continued…

Maths reflection

Lately room 4 has being given the task to create a symmetrical pattern.
We had to come up with a shape that would be both symmetrical and show
rotation, that was only for the year 7s and 8s and the 5s and 6s had to make it
symmetrical. I found it hard to keep it symmetrical on both sides and to include
a rotational aspect to the shape. I really enjoyed creating the shape and then
colouring it in.

Here is my finished peice.

Collaborating with Gisborne intermediate

Today we are doing a collaboration day with Gisborne Intermediate. So far today we have played a game of Ultimate Frisbee and did another collaborative activity. The activity was we had to construct a paper plane but the paper plane had to have 4 straws, some were on the plane and  you could not just screw up a the  paper and throw it. After morning tea we went to the shops, at the shops there were things that you could buy. Me and my friend's got sherbet it was good. And I also meet some new people. Over all it was a fun day! I would really enjoy to do it again, and cant wait to host Gisborne intermediate at Matawai for the go kart derby!
